Secretarys Report AGM 2016

Club Secretary Report 30th Dec 2016

Secretary’s report

Annual General Meeting.

30th December 2016.

"Deuglán Naofa ARDMHÓR"

2016 Overview….

Senior Football 2016

With the draws made for the 2016 c’ship it was important for Ardmore to make a good start due to the presence two past county winning teams on-board our group. Lining up against St Saviours & Gaultier was the perfect platform to us to build a possible Q-final spot. While we stumbled against "The Nire", "Ballinacourty" & "An Rinn" we managed to hold 4th spot for a Q/final showdown v "Stradbally". Looking back this could be seen as a lost opportunity for a semi-final spot as Ardmore were very unlucky not to pip the Bally boys at the post. Thanks to our SF Mgt team of Frankie North; Adrian O’Donnell & John Hennessy.

Quarter Final

The Phelan Cup once again provided an opportunity to blood some new players, but again the pit fall was player availability for these important league games as it builds a platform for c’ship preparation.

Intermediate Hurling 2016:

--- Western Championship ---

I am not going to burden with the facts as the table below will reflect the disappointment across Players, Mgt & Club. With the exception of the Lismore game we can be deemed very unlucky not to have made the knock-out stages of the Western c’ship. Even against Lismore we dictated the proceedings for most of the 1st half. We should be disappointed with the Ballysaggart & Clashmore results…& can be again unlucky v Modeligo as we proved that Ardmore are an extremely decent Intermediate outfit!

Ardmore must now re-group & begin the junior c’ship with hopes of progressing & bouncing back to Intermediate grade for 2018… for which I am sure is possible if all Players make themselves available for the 2017 campaign!

While our Mgt Team will be disappointed, can I commend them for sticking to the task in the hope that we would hold our Int status for 2017… for that I wish to Thank to John Power, Michael Murray & Coach Noel O’Connor .

The Intermediate Hurling League played out some excellent games…where the plan was to blood our younger players for the Intermediate C’ship challenge.

Western Intermediate Hurling league Table:

Under 21 Hurling & Football:

Expectations for our U-21’s to progress in both codes again this year was also on the cards. As this is a knock-out c’ship it was always paramount to pass the first hurdle. While things did not gel as well in past years we can be still pleased that our U-21 Panel of players are progressing into Senior ranks.

Thanks to the Mgt Team of Adrian O’Donnell; Declan & Seamus Prendergast for the effort put into this grade over the past years.

Minor Hurling & Football Tables 2016:

Our Minor Panels across both grades can be well pleased with the outcome this season. While some result below may show different we still showed some excellent phases of play with some excellent scores on the board. Well done to our Mgt Team led by Anthony Ahern.

Club Grounds/Premises:

The Club grounds & premises were once again busy throughout the year with many c’ship games played across many grades from Underage to Senior. Thanks to John & Jamsie O’Donnell for the ever reliable field maintenance. Thanks to Noel Conway & the FAS Scheme/employees for their efforts in making sure our premises & ground are kept in tune during the playing season & beyond.

Fundraising is a key component of running a GAA Club for all it activities as there is no golden egg to draw down from, with Players Insurance/Welfare & levies we have to keep working weekly/ monthly on fundraising activities. A special word of thanks to the carers of our Club Lotto Mary Prendergast & John O Donnell for the work that is done to generate this income on a weekly basis. To Noel Conway who has managed the Deise Draw & was the key organizer in our Golf Classic. To Patrick Reardon for bring the Olympics to Ardmore during the Pattern Weekend & to the ever reliable Juv Committee for organising the Cake Sales & Table Quiz’s during the year.

I would especially wish to acknowledge the work that the Juvenile committee have done over the past year. During the 2016 Season our Juvenile completed at grades from Under 7- Under 16. For any Club to develop it needs a foundation of Under-age players. We thank the many parents/coaches who make the time & effort in getting kids to training & matches. Thanks to Patrick Reardon our Juv Chairperson role in 2016 and a special thanks to Kirsten Sullivan for her commitment as Juv Secretary.

Special word to the Under-16’s who competed in two County Finals in 2016, and were very unlucky not to pull off the Double in both grades.

While the year draws to a close for this committee I wish to reflect & acknowledge the assistance of Noel Conway (Chairperson) & our Treasurer James O’Donnell…. I can only commend them both for their efforts as we all live other lives outside of the GAA circle.

To the extended Committee I thank you for being available to lend a hand when & where needed!

As Club Secretary may I take this moment to send condolences to the families of Club Members & Patrons who have passed away in 2016. In recent days we all have witnessed the passing of young Damien Foley who played with Clashmore/Kinsalebeg as an underage player. To his Father Michael who donned the Club Colours of Ardmore …& to Bertie Hallahan (Grandfather to Damien) who is a passionate Ardmhór GAA Club member and has been activity involved in Club Fundraising over the past years. We send you our heartfelt sympathy thoughts & Prayers. (May Damien Rest in Peace)

U-21 All-Ireland:

Well done to David Gartland on being part of the Under-21 County Hurling Success in 2016…a player of wonderful talent & can be extremely proud in being a member of wonderful panel of players who achieved both Munster & All-Ireland glory in 2016.

On a personal note I have to thank all the Committee Members, players & Mgt that I have worked with over the past year.

I am sure there are many key moments is have missed during the year, so please accept my apologies as there is no intention to misplace such moments.

As my tenure as Club Secretary draws to an end for 2016, I wish to confirm that I will not be putting my name forward for any position on the club for 2017.

So as I sign off for 2107, I wish you all a Happy & peaceful New Year & please travel safe & well!
